Dean Martz, MD
Dean Martz, MD, is a physician leader with 30 years of experience spanning clinical neurosurgery and executive healthcare leadership. His career is defined by his ability to bridge gaps between healthcare specialties and departments, turning divergent interests into successful collaborations. This combination of clinical insight and executive leadership informs his advisory work with organizations navigating complex change, alignment, and system integration.
He has led change at both regional and system levels, including the centralization of key functions across multiple healthcare facilities to reduce duplication and improve efficiency, as well as the development of system-wide approaches to promote consistent, high-quality care. In each instance, multiple stakeholders were involved, and the priority was to craft solutions all could support.
His leadership and governance experience includes service as President of the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) and as a board member for First Choice Health and the Spokane Teaching Health Clinic. These roles sharpened his ability to navigate the intersection of clinical excellence, policy, governance, and operational realities—skills central to advising senior leaders and boards.
In the community, he is involved with foundation work, including grantmaking and advocacy focused on social determinants of health.
Dean earned his Doctor of Medicine from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed his neurosurgery training at the University of Michigan.
