Daryll DeWald, Ph.D., is a distinguished academic leader, scientist, and executive with more than three decades of experience in higher education, health sciences, and biochemistry research. He has served in leadership roles at Washington State University (WSU), most recently as Executive Vice President of Health Sciences and Chancellor of WSU Health Sciences Spokane.

At WSU, Dr. DeWald has overseen transformative growth in health sciences education and research in Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy. Under his leadership, research expenditures at the Health Sciences campus increased substantially, while the newly established College of Medicine achieved full accreditation. He supported statewide programs in WSU Health Sciences, strengthened residency programs, and spearheaded strategic initiatives.

Previously, Dr. DeWald led the establishment of the College of Arts and Sciences at WSU, where he served as the inaugural dean. His fundraising leadership secured endowed professorships, student scholarships and program support. Earlier roles for DeWald include Dean of the College of Sciences at WSU, Head of the Department of Biology at Utah State University, and leadership positions in research centers and multicultural student programs.

A biochemist by training, Dr. DeWald earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University and his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Wyoming. His research career spans cancer biology, plant physiology, and cellular signaling.  He is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and has served on numerous national grant review panels for the NIH, NSF, DOD, and other agencies.
